BOYERTOWN, Pa. - A partnership involving two nonprofit organizations aims to save lives in and around Boyertown.

The Boyertown Lions Community Ambulance has taken a big step toward ensuring that the Boyertown Salvation Army's leaders and volunteers are preprared to provide assistance in the event of a medical emergency.

"After nearly a year of planning and grant writing, the team was excited to finally be presenting an AED to the Boyertown Area Salvation Army, as well as providing training to their leadership team and staff," said Amy Muzopappa, president of the ambulance service.

An on-site AED, combined with the training, equips the Salvation Army with tools that will help it better serve the thousands of people it helps in the Boyertown area each year, officials said.

"There is no doubt that the Boyertown area is indebted to Boyertown Lions Community Ambulance Service and the Boyertown Area Salvation Army for their caring service and humanitarian aid," said the borough's mayor, Marianne Deery.

The AED, Muzopappa added, was donated by a member of the community who wished to remain anonymous.
